This new installation includes one International Peace Pole, a tile pole created by the Religious Education children and youth, and a garden pole.

The International Peace Pole has the phrase “May Peace Prevail On Earth” written in four
languages: Spanish, English, Algonquin, and Japanese.  Japanese was included to remind us
of the Granada War Relocation Center (now the Amache National Historic Site) in southeast
Colorado, where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II.  Algonquin
represents a family of North American Indian languages.

Now, after quite the journey and lots of hard work, the installation is complete!  All Souls is home to these three beautiful Peace Poles.  Please stop by the Tejon Street entrance of the church to admire them!

Two years ago, Kate Harrison brought forward the idea.  Pat Zeddies did research, including visiting Ivywild, a former elementary school where you can find a wall of clay tiles featuring children's handprints.

Pat writes, "The inspiration for kids to decorate themes of peace came from my teaching years when we made quilts with squares depicting The history of the holocaust. When stitched together they made a striking impression."

Special thanks to Pat Zeddies, Janice Black, Charmaine D’Alessandro, Diane Page, Dan Hall, and to the RE community for their work on this beautiful addition to our gardens.  We hope this provides a peaceful place for reflection for all who pass by.
