HIKE NAME: Spruce Mountain Hike

TRAILHEAD: Spruce Mountain Open Space trailhead

MEETING PLACE: Woodman Park n’ Ride Arrive by 8:00, leave by 8:15.
Be sure you are in the east parking lot nearest I25, address 6910 Mark Dabling.n

HIKE STARTS at: 9:00. Please arrive by: 8:45

HIKE DISTANCE: about 5.9 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: about 580 ft

HIKING TIME (moving time): 2.5 -3 hours

HIKE DIFFICULTY RANGE: Moderate. There are a few short, steep sections.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: Spruce Mountain is one of the limestone buttes just east of Rampart
Range and north of Palmer Lake. We will follow the forested trail as it makes its way up the side
of the butte. At the top, the trail makes a loop, providing a wonderful view of Pikes Peak,
Rampart Range,Greenland Open Space and the valley below. If we are lucky there should be a
few wildflowers just emerging.

HIKER PREPARATION/EQUIPMENT: Bring plenty of freshwater and a snack if you wish.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: From I 25 and E. Woodman Rd., drive north on
Highway 25 for 14 miles. Take the exit toward S. County line Rd./Palmer Divide road. Turn left
onto South County line/Palmer Divide Road and continue driving for 2.6 miles. Turn right just
after the railroad tracks onto Spruce Mountain Road and drive 3.5 miles. Turn left and drive 300
feet to Spruce Mountain Trail parking lot.
