In April 2023, a grant request was made to the SHF, for shared funding for preservation and renovation of the building exterior of our 132-year-old church. The grant was approved in June of 2023.
The scope of work included:
- Rehabilitation of Tower - masonry stabilization, wood trim and louver repair and painting, the repair and painting of the roof flashing. Cleaning of the bell tower interior and installation of new metal panels.
- Rehabilitation of Roof Gable Ends - which have suffered from paint loss, weathering, and areas of wood rot.
Epoxy filler was installed in the rotted areas, trim was replaced, and new paint was applied.
- Rehabilitation of Exterior Masonry - The masonry on the lower levels of all four facades needed to be repaired and repointed.
- Rehabilitation of the metal panning at the top of the stone veneer – the sheet metal cap was badly weathered, and the substrate was rotted. New wood framing was installed and caped with a prefinished metal panning.
- Rehabilitation of the brick masonry chimney – the surface was sandblasted to remove old paint, the brick joints were tuckpointed, and a densifier was sprayed on the brick face.
- Repairs to the chimney flashing to eliminate water leaks.
- Cleaning and repainting of the exterior wood shingles and stucco.
