TRAILHEAD:  Royal Gorge Park East Ridge Campground      

Co Rd 389B, Cañon City, CO 81212

MEETING PLACE: Safeway, 6520 S Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 Please arrive by 8:45 am, leaving by 9:00am.

The scenic drive south to the trailhead takes about an hour.

HIKE DISTANCE:  about 4.5 miles

ELEVATION GAIN:  400 ft 

HIKING TIME (moving time): 2.5 hours

HIKE DIFFICULTY RANGE: easy to moderate

PACE: Moving along between stops for gazing and photo opportunities.

HIKE DESCRIPTION:  This hike just outside Cañon City is a combination of 2 routes taking us to the edge of the Royal Gorge for stunning views in several places along the way. Often called the “banana belt” for it’s mild temperatures, this hike reveals panoramic, gorgeous views of the Royal Gorge and the Bridge. No park fee required.

***We occasionally stop for lunch if the group chooses***

HIKER PREPARATION/EQUIPMENT:  Sturdy shoes, poles,  and spikes may come in handy in case of rough gravel or ice. Watch the weather in the Cañon City area.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: From south Academy Boulevard, Turn south onto Colorado Highway 115 S. and drive 29 miles. Turn right onto the US 50 W., ramp and drive 19 miles to Canyon city. Turn left on County Road 3A and drive 1.3 miles to the Royal Gorge Park East Ridge campground. Rd F30 Cañon City, Co

RESTROOM: Yes, at the beginning and along the overlook loop. Pit toilets.

PETS: Yes, on leash. Please clean up after your pet.
